Cotton Hearts Club & Update

Hello, my fellow Cotton Hearts!

Hopefully I’m finally getting the hang of this whole newsletter thing, and this one will look a little better than the last one! Now some of you might be asking, “Another newsletter? I just got one!” This isn’t my typical newsletter, but I did want to reach out to you about some updates in our shop.

If you’ve been to the shop recently you might have noticed I’m not there, or maybe you’ve found me sitting in the back classroom and said hello! Well, I’m a bit embarrassed to say… I was on top of an 8’ step ladder hanging a sample quilt, I shifted just a little too far to the right, and the ladder shifted left, and the rest was gravity! No worries, the quilt was ok, and I only broke one shelf on my way down! I figured I would work through the pain.  After all, I was too busy to head to the doctor with the new shop and all. Silly me! But I finally had to go in, and it turns out I have a fractured vertebrae. They’re suspecting I’ll need surgery, but I won’t know for sure until the results of my MRI are in, and I see the surgeon on May 31st.

Until then, I'm on "bedrest", or in my case sit-rest because it hurts too much to lay down for too long! I'm not allowed to lift a bolt of fabric, iron, rotary cut, or do most things I need or want to do. Unfortunately, that means some of the classes we had coming up have been postponed, and some have been removed from the calendar for now.  I was sew excited for classes, and I still am! They’ll be back on the calendar soon.

I have a wonderfully capable and talented crew here at Cotton Hearts Quilt Shop! They have been so supportive and helpful to me; I feel like I have eight shop moms! And I’m so grateful to them for taking care of everything, every day, with or without me. I’m working on lining up new dates and times for classes. But at the moment we are working around a few scheduled vacations, and our Kristi is out of the shop for a few weeks because she had to have emergency bowel obstruction surgery. We’ve been missing our very sweet, color coordinating, genius! You’ve probably met her at our cutting tables. She’s home now and resting and excited to get back to work soon!

We are still having our Cotton Hearts Club, this Thursday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. We're going to do a spray demo with our shop favorites: Best Press 1 & 2, Arrow Precision Piecing, Faultless, and Flatter. We’ll have a couple of other demos in the shop as well. This club night will be “open house” style. You can visit each of our demo tables and see “What’s Sewing On” here at the shop! We’ll be introducing the new 30’s Playtime, Dog Park, and Cozy Wonderland fabric, just released this week by Moda. It’s our Show and Tell night, and we want to see what you’ve been up to! Even if it’s just a block! Have you made a quilt with fabric you got here at Cotton Hearts Quilt Shop? Each month at our Cotton Hearts Club we’ll select a Featured Quilt to display right here in our store! The featured quilter will win a prize and receive 10% for the next month! To RSVP text your first and last name to 219-613-1659, and you’ll be entered into our 5 Yard Shopping Spree Drawing for Thursday night!

If you come by the shop in the next few weeks, I’ll be in a big comfy chair at my sewing machine working on shop samples! (I’m allowed to sit and sew!) Some of you have already asked and I’m sure some of you are wondering, so I’ll go ahead and tell you… nope, we are not closing the shop! It never even crossed my mind! So I want to stop that rumor before it even starts. lol! I’ll be back on my feet in no time, and until then the Cotton Hearts crew is here to help you make your next quilt! The longarm is purring along, and our hours haven’t changed. It’s quilting as usual around here!

How wonderful it is to have such a wonderful community of quilters. It has been very hard for me to admit defeat and reach out to those who had signed up for classes. But you’ve all been so understanding, patient and kind. You’ve wished me well, sent me prayers, stopped by to check on me, and brought me flowers. I appreciate you all so much. Thank you, from the bottom of my cotton heart.

Sincerely,

Dawn
